What materials are in OmieBox UP?

OmieBox UP is made of ABS, PP, food grade silicon, and 18/8 304 grade stainless steel.

Is OmieBox UP BPA free?

Yes, OmieBox UP is BPA free and meets all FDA and CPSIA safety requirements. 

Where is OmieBox UP made?

OmieBox UP is responsibly made in China.

Is OmieBox UP leakproof? 

Yes. OmieBox UP has two leak-proof compartments that can hold up to 1 teaspoon of liquid each. Wet foods (soup, yogurt, dressing) should go inside the thermos.

Sub-sections created by using the divider are not leak-proof. The divider just meant to separate the peas from the carrots.

 Is OmieBox UP microwave safe?

No, please do not place OmieBox UP or any of its parts in the microwave.

Is OmieBox UP dishwasher safe?

Most OmieBox UP parts are dishwasher safe except for the following parts. Do not put these in the dishwasher:

  • Thermos
  • Thermos Lid
  • Ice Pack
  • Securing Insert

Yes, OmieBox UP is freezer safe.

Do's and Don'ts
  • Don’t leave food inside OmieBox UP for more than 12 hours.
  • Never put your thermos or OmieBox UP inside a microwave, on the stove top, or in any type of oven. 
  • Never boil your thermos.
  • Always hand wash your thermos.
  • Food in the thermos could burn or scald the user. Use extreme caution and always test the temperature before consuming.
  • If the contents are left in the container for more than 24 hours, or if you think the food might be spoiled, use caution when opening the container. Point the opening away from the user and other persons to avoid injury.
  • Don’t store carbonated beverages or dry ice in your thermos.
  • Don’t put your OmieBox UP in the microwave or freezer. 
  • Always use extreme caution when handling hot contents.
  • Do not fill the thermos past the ridge below the neck.
  • Do not over-tighten the thermos lid.
  • Hot content can cause pressure to build within the thermos resulting in a release of hot steam. Open with care to avoid burns.
  • Use extreme caution when opening a stuck thermos lid as the internal pressure might cause the lid to eject forcefully. Always point it away from people and pets to avoid injury.

How should I prepare my thermos for optimal insulation?

Fill your thermos with hot water from a kettle and let it stand with the lid off for 5 minutes. Then carefully pour out the hot water. Use extreme caution when handling hot liquids! 

Is there a limit to how much food I can fit in my thermos?

Do not fill the thermos past the ridge below the neck or it might leak.

Can I boil the OmieBox UP thermos?

No. Boiling the thermos has no effect on its insulation performance, and can in fact completely damage the thermos. 

Can I use the ice pack and the thermos simultaneously?

Yes! The ice pack will not affect the temperature of the food inside the thermos.

How can I put child's name on the silicon name tag?

You can write your child's name on the silicon name tag with a sharpie. If you would prefer to buy a personalized name sticker, you can reach out to Sticky Monkey Labels. They make a name label specifically to the size of the silicon name tag.

How should I clean OmieBox UP?

Please wash thoroughly before you use OmieBox UP for the first time.

Most OmieBox UP parts are dishwasher safe except for the following parts. Do not put these in the dishwasher:

  • Thermos
  • Thermos lid
  • Ice pack
  • Securing insert
How should I clean the seals?

There are two silicon seals in your OmieBox UP. There is one large rectangular seal that goes around the perimeter of the box. The other is a round O-ring that goes around your thermos lid. Both need to be removed daily for cleaning. Wash in warm soapy water and let dry completely. Without daily cleaning, silicon is highly prone to mold growth which is irreversible and requires the part to be completely replaced. No biggie, we all get busy and forget sometimes. Should mold grow, just come to our website to buy spare seals - we’ll keep plenty in stock for you.

Troubleshooting

My thermos isn’t keeping my food warm enough 

First - always preheat your thermos with hot water. Second - opt for foods like soup or items with sauce. Bread based items such as quesadillas or chicken nuggets won’t stay warm very long. If you think your thermos isn't performing at its best, you can test the insulation of your thermos by following the steps below: 

  • Put the thermos on a flat surface and pour boiling water into the thermos.
  • After about 5 minutes, feel the outside of the thermos (below the neck).
  • If you feel any hot spots, the  insulation has been compromised and you may be eligible for a replacement thermos.
 What if I can't open my OmieBox UP Thermos?

If your OmieBox UP thermos lid is hard to open, please try giving it a 20 minute ice-bath. But don't force it! Just email us at info@omielife.com and we can help.

If the lid is stuck or difficult to open, do not use excessive force. Forcing it open could lead to sudden pressure release and increase the likelihood of an accident.
